This chic yet welcoming coffee shop is one of only two Torrerfazione locations in Canada (the other is in Vancouver). Coffee 'for here' is served in gorgeous Deruta, handpainted ceramic mugs (a selection of Deruta is for sale in the store). Unlike competitors (that shall remain nameless) there are no flavoured syrups here and the focus is on coffee pure and simple. About 30 people can sit inside - a few lucky ones will get to sit in the comfy leather lounge chairs (2 only) or on the matching love seat (3 people if you're friends). The rest can enjoy their coffee, pastries (mostly from Cascadia and the Italian Bakery), gelato and panini seated around wooden tables all inlain with Deruta handpainted tiles. Torrefazione is usually busy and full of regulars but out-of-towners are made to feel welcome. Tables outside for the nicotine addicts enjoy the always interesting vista of Government Street.

(I've always wondered why the men's washroom at Torrefazione has a key - and now I think I understand why. Probably because it doubles as a handicapped washroom. So yes, Torrefazione is completely handicapped accessible (no stairs, chairs that aren't affixed to the tables or floor so you can slide your wheelchair in), including its washroom (though you might have to wait for the previous customer to finish in there).)
