Amongst Victorian buildings, you'll find the Skean Block, named for Elmer Skean, the one-time owner of the buildings. Inside, the high-ceilinged, tidy restaurant sports comfortable, cherry-colored wood furnishings, huge storefront windows, and, in places, a belle-epoque opulence with velvet-cushioned chairs in the hall and colorful prints of once-upon-a-time Paris on its walls. With the meat choices outweighing seafood and pasta selections, the menu draws on rural Iowa's steakhouse heritage, but goes much, much further.
